Alternative reason for why the VIX is so low

I was discussing the VIX signal (from Wednesday), and teased out a better explanation for why the VIX is so low:

Its the Cub’s fault; That’s right, the NCLS series between the Cubs and the Marlins ran late, so the CBOE option traders are simply whipped. Not only are they physically tired from watching the series, talking about the games, and worrying whether the curse lives, they are emotionally exhausted from the outcome . . .

So now you know the REAL reason why the VIX is under 18 — blame it on the Curse.
