American University’s Campaign Management Institute hosts a training program for people interest in working for or running political campaigns. The two week program includes a series of seminars with pollsters, media consultants and other political operatives.

Part 1: Lobbying & the Regulatory Process – American University President Cornelius Kerwin led a discussion on how rule making in Congress and federal agencies provide opportunities for lobbyists to affect legislation.

Part 2: Political Fundraising – Emily’s List Senior Finance Manager Mary Jane Volk outlined the fundraising steps advocacy organizations take to raise money. Emily’s List raises money for Democratic women candidates who support abortion rights.

Part 3: Lobbying Rules & Regulation – Washington lobbyist Michael Berman talked about the evolution of lobbying rules and regulations. During this lecture at American University, he criticized new rules on Executive Branch lobbying created by the Obama Administration. Mr. Berman previously served as Deputy Chief of Staff to Vice President Walter Mondale during the Carter Administration.
