Vie de France ( is a very good quick serve place in Japan. Their bakery-cafes generate a lot of made-on-site, tasty and inexpensive food. They continually replenish their self-serve buffets with fresh food. Just grab a tray and a set of tongs and go to work. Once finished, take to the cashier (usually there’s 3 lanes open) who processes the payment and wraps your food if it’s for takeout. Quick, efficient, and good. Multiple varieties of quiches, crapes, etc., in addition to pastries and rolls, etc. Probably the best though were the shrimp and salmon sandwiches: What U.S. chain can compete with those being sold for $3 each at Vie de France? Talk about the antidote for too much deep fried food!

Well, it can’t be flavor and it can’t be price. Maybe it’s just habit? Still looking for the Happy Meal?

What I find interesting is the rise of Starbucks to #2. Franchising is a difficult but potentially lucrative business model.

BusinessInsider Magazine assessed the top 50 franchises in the world in July 2015

The other point is the best franchise to own. Two years ago Forbes described 12 of the best franchise to own, base on estimated profitability of which this factoid includes 5, notably Chic a fil as #1 and McDonalds as #2 of franchises – although I suspect the Mcdonalds numbers are down.

Yeah, but you have to sell your soul to the American Taliban to get a Chic-Fil-A franchise. I wouldn’t eat there if I was starving. And, No. I’m straight.

Chick-fil-A is #8? That surprises me. Love there sandwiches although they do not have much of a presence in the Northeast
