I often wonder why car makers don’t make more beautiful cars. Does it really cost that much more to make something that’s great to look at? The Mazda Miata/Eunos/MX5 is one example. It’s not exceptionally good looking but it’s a hell of a lot better than anything else in its price class. And it sold like hot cakes. Then Mazda went back to making dross.
What the SL190 had as did many of the ’50s/early ’60s era roadsters that I miss in today’s roadsters was a fully rounded ass. The XKE and in the lower price range, the Austin Healey are good examples as well.
The closest to this nowadays are the Porsche roadsters’ asses.
What can I say, I am what I am. I like a fully rounded ass on my girls.
Thanks for the nostalgia. 50 years ago I owned one. Murray
