Governor: More deaths likely
? Katrina blamed for 68 deaths, including 55 in Mississippi? Reports of bodies floating in water in
Wow, I have been watching CNN today and I cannot believe how bad the USA is handling the disaster.
Only today the president got the brilliant idea to sent some ships? Wayyy too late. Yesterday we saw people lute in the shops and today reports that the police is out of bullets… why wasnt the army standing by? Both for relief aid and to prevent luting.
Katrina
Not a lot of time today, but I did want to point out this site as a resource to anyone who can spare some funds to those left in Katrina’s wake.
There are some pretty amazing birds-eye-view pictures on Kathryn Cramer’s site (via Lauren)

In this time of natural disaster why do citizens “Americans” like you have to blame our USA/president for everything? President Bush ordered 8 US Navy ships that have supplies, including helicopters, issued fuel wavers, sent the Coast Guard, Army Corps of Engineers, etc. You do not have your facts accurate. Be grateful that you do not live in a 3rd World country that relies on foreign aid. Please take the time to thank GOD…
Thanks, Barry. I used it myself. And, last night, i printed out the list and made it available at the Phoenix Symphony Guild meeting.
I called Red Cross for the mailing address in Washington DC. Just that easy.
Last night we were talking with our four year old about what she can do for Katrina survivors. Its got me thinking beyond our Red Cross donation. For what its worth — I’ve picked this site to list a few ideas for the taking (and I’m contacting some of the possible corporate do-gooders too but these are unsolicited ideas…)
A fast food chain could have a Cajun Chicken sandwich with proceeds to relief efforts
Credit card rewards programs could offer donate your points for aid
Grocery chains could offer donate your points for food aid
Remember the Jerry Lewis do-it at home telethon carnival of the 70’s — what about a kit for Mardi Gras themed Halloween party with donation/fundraising aspect and proceedes to relief effort?
Sports — NFL since stadiums being used — could also give portions of ticket sales or run other promotion
Where’s the Hollywood telethon?
Anyway, these are the top of mind ideas. For what its worth…
I’m matching contributions (up to $2,000 total at this point but it’s likely to go higher). See details at:

Is there anyone who can tell me how to go about driving a truck load of supplies to new orleand where should i go or who should i call?

Instead of complaining that the goverment isn’t doing enough WHY DON’T YOU HELP PEOPLE WERE TOLD TO LEAVE I FEEL BAD FOR THOSE WHO CAN’T
THIS IS A NATURAL DISASTER GODS WRATH CAN’T BE FIXED IN A MINUTE BY THE GOVERMENT SORRY! GET A CLUE QUIT WATCHING THE LIBERAL MEDIA THAT ONLY LOOKS FOR BAD STORIES!!!! DEMOCRATS ALWAYS COMPLAIN REPUBLICANS LOOK FOR SOLUTIONS!!!
Where are the animal rescue workers? I saw on CNBC a report where a man and his three dogs were on a hotel roof…will someone help these dogs? A small boy had his dog,Snowball, taken from his arms before they would let him on a bus…has New Orleans become the Warsaw Ghetto? Thank you Republicans…you elected a fine man to help us!!!!
This is sad that I am trapped in a place where I do not have any money to survive.I am from New Orle ans, and I have family that turn there back on me. But only God is Good
Is there a site where people can volunteer to come and help with the disaster?
Please advise.
Thank you.
We IBEW union members in Atlanta are colecting funds throughout our jobs and challanging the big contractors to match what we are taking out of our pockets to help the working men and women who have been devestated by this catastrophic event. Hopefully this is being done nationwide
I would just like to express my sadness to all the people who have been affected by katrina. I live in the United Kingdom and would just like you to know that the british people have you in their prayers. I have donated to the american red cross and i can only hope that the british government set up an appeal to help.
Is there a legitimate address that I can send survival gear to, things such as tents, flashlights, water containers?
I’m appalled at the lack of preparedness of state & federal authorities for this disaster, and the suffering of a great city.
I’m Canadian – & I’ve never been to New Orleans – though I will some day. I’ve been looking in vain for appeals from major charities (or even minor ones) – because I would like to do do something to help. I live in Toronto – & I thought my local newspaper ought to be running ads for disaster relief organizations – but I’ve seen nothing. I see at the top of this website an address for the Salvation Army & Red Cross. But where is the huge response that came after the Boxing Day tsunami ? I’m horrified by my government’s slowness to respond, & the dearth of offers to help.
I will contribute what I can to a relief organization – can anyone tell me if there’s one that’s actually out there & doing something?
willing to take some people in and put them up in two 1 bedroom apartments. willing also to share my 1 bedroom apartment.
I will do this only through some chartable organization.
also, i work only 3 days out of the week, would apprecita any info on how is it that i can help using my cable internet connection.
We have 2 apartments in Reading, PA that we would be willing to lend/rent to someone in need. These persons should be able to pass a credit and criminal background check. We can only afford to lend the apartments for 1 month. After that, the tenant would have to pay rent, which we can negotiate, depending on the tenant’s means.
We are also an approved foster home, and would be willing to host up to 2 displaced children. We can accomodate 1 boy and 1 girl under the age of 13.
WE WILL ONLY DO THIS THROUGH SOME CHARITABLE ORGANIZATION.
Bush should NEVER have been ‘made’ president. Period. While 9/11 was unfolding, what was he doing? Reading along with a class of 9 y/o’s…Common sense tells ME to get up off my butt and act. Hurricane Katrina hits and 5 days later and after the Governor and Mayor make public pleas…HE decides “help is on the way”. (just like 9-11) MOST IMPORTANTLY, this catastrophy could have been prevented! And it wasnt caused directly by Katrina, an aging and deteriorating levee system needed upgrading and repairs. 2-3 yrs ago New Orleans and the state of Louisiana had a plan in place to correct this but DUBYA cut the funding… Ofcourse he had the funding for a Regiem change in IRAQ. And for all you ‘good’ Christians that voted for him on “Moral grounds”… All your vote did was cost Lives – innocent lives in Iraq and now innocent lives in New Orleans… BUSH is Unfit for Office. He is incompetent, arrogant, dishonest, and an elitist; you can see it in his stuttering, stammering, and hesitation.
To M Woods in Toronto Go to working families.org they have a contribution site set up to help working families through the AFL-CIO they will insure that contributions do not get tangled in the bureaucratc red tape. To all my brothers and sisiters out of homes out of work and in need help is on the way The working class of America will find a way to take care of its own without the elitists help Hell even Fidel Castro has acted faster than W
Hurricane Relief: Too Little Too Late
Our government at work after 4 years of Homeland Security preparedness http://msnbc.msn.com/id/9162009/site/newsweek/
Its time for our National Leadership to speak out regarding the lack of timely response on behalf of our Federal Govt in the South. Many thousands of American lives will be lost in the next few days alone if the situation in the south is not brought under control immediately. On Tuesday, our President was in California shaking hands, joking it up, and PLAYING GUITAR with country music musicians on a Navy Ship, rather than taking command of the situation in the Southern States, a situation, which by all predictions on Sunday and Monday, could easily end up with the loss of tens of thousands of lives. Our President did not put National guard troops into action or mobilize Navy relief efforts until Wednesday (by all accounts five days late), by the time those shamefully modest resources get into place, fully one week will have passed, any many people will be dead.
Our Nation has had four years to prepare for such an event as Hurricane Katrina, with billions spent on FEMA, the Homeland Security Dept. and NorthCom, and yet the response to the situation is woefully tardy, and woefully indequate. I call on all Americans to speak with one voice and demand the Federal Government TRIPLE the troops (30,000 to cover and area the size of England is nowhere near enough) and resources sent to the area immediately. Minuites are precious, and our American brothers and sisters are dying needlessly of starvation and dehydration. It takes a human being three or four days to die of dehydration, and there are over 100,000 people in New Orleans alone, not counting other ares, who have not had food or water for at least that long. For the first time in modern history, Americans may witness tens of thousands of people die from starvation in the next two or three days. Food and water should be being airdropped into unreachable areas, as we did in Afghanistan and Iraq, but they’re not. Hundreds of Military Helicopters should be being used to tranport the thousnds of people caught on rooftops, but as of Thursday, only FOUR helicopters were being used in search and rescue in the whole city of New Orleans, and those were being shot at. Civilian helicopter operators should be being recruited, commandeered if necesary, to help with airlifts, but they are not. Thousands of Coast Guard Reserves Nationwide should be being called up, but so far only five hundred have. Marine Amphibious assault vehicles should be being used to get to the neighborhoods tht have not been reached yet, but they are not. The FEMA holding camps that are set up at military bases around the US, and that are capable of holding up to three million people collectively, should be being readied to hold refugees, but they are not. The USS Comfort, the Navy’s floating hospital ship, will not be deployed until Sunday of this week…one must wonder why it was not standing at the ready ten days ago, in position to arrive as soon as the storm winds died down on Tuesday. American Babies are dying in their mother’s arms while our government lumbers into action like a herd of bedraggled, apathetic snails.
“This is a national disgrace,” said Terry Ebbert, head of New Orleans’ emergency operations. “FEMA has been here three days, yet there is no command and control,” Ebbert said. “We can send massive amounts of aid to tsunami victims but we can’t bail out the city of New Orleans.”advertisement. “We have got a mayor who has been pushing and asking but we’re not getting supplies.”
He said the evacuation was almost entirely a Louisiana operation. “This is not a FEMA operation. I haven’t seen a single FEMA guy.”
News reports showed a crowd of refugees, including children, stranded without adequate food, water or medical attention at New Orleans’ downtown convention center, even though it had been designated a shelter after the Superdome filled up. Seven bodies were strewn outside. When was asked on National Public Radio why no help had been sent, Homeland Security Secretary Miachel Chertoff said he was unaware of the problem (!). One must truly marvel at the incopetency of a man who must be the ONLY person in America who was unaware of the situation at the Convention Center.
“This is a desperate SOS,” New Orleans Mayor Ray Nagin said in a statement made available to CNN. “Right now we are out of resources at the convention center and don’t anticipate enough buses. Currently the convention center is unsanitary and unsafe and we are running out of supplies for 15,000 to 25,000 people”. “They don’t have a clue what’s going on down there,” the Mayor told WWL-AM Thursday night.” Mayor Nagin warned that thousands of residents could die if remaining water supplies are cut off or contaminated. Some 50,000 residents are still on rooftops awaiting rescue, he said. Many if not most have past the “Golden 72 hours” without food or water that Emergency Experts know are crucial to survival.
As of Friday, a chemical explosion is spreading noxious fumes around the already destroyed city of New Orleans, threatening thousands. Not since the Civil War have we seen such destruction, such suffereing on US soil. 911 pales in comparison. This is truly a National Disgrace of tragic porportions, and the situation needs to be adressed NOW, before thousands more, perhaps tens of thousnads die needlessly of starvation and third world diseases such as cholera and typhoid.
The American people need to call Senators, Representatives, Governors, the White House, the Media, Celebrities, Clergy etc. and demand that someone speak out, and take action. We have spent billions in Homeland Security preparedness, have tremendous resources, and yet are government is dispersing aid like molasses from an eye dropper, while people die. Many thousands more will die in the next few days if action is not taken.
Time to speak up America. Time to wake up Mr. President.

I LIVE IN LITTLE ROCK, AR. THE SCENES AND SAD AND HEART BREAKING. , BUT , MUCH GOOD HAS COME FROM A VERY SAD SITUATION WHAT THE OTHER STATES, COUNTRIES, OR WORLD DOESN’T ALWAYS SEE IS THE AVERAGE CITIZENS OF ARKANSAS FOR HEARTLESSLY GIVING: FOOD, CLOTHING, MONEY,TIME. THE STATE OF ARKANSAS HAS OPENED OUR SCHOOLS, COLLEGES, RESTAURANTS, CHURCH, HOMES, AND EVEN OFFERING JOBS , ACTIVIITIES , AND SERVICES FOR FREE OR FOR THE LA AND MS KATRINA VICTIMS. IT IS HUMBLING AND I AM THANKFUL FOR WHAT I DO HAVE. AND JUST ONE DOLLAR PER PERSON ADDS UP, OR WHAT A BOTTLE OF WATER OR A CAN OF FOOD MEANS TO SOMEONE ELSE THAT HAS NOTHING AND HAS BEEN WITHOUT FOR 3 DAYS. WE ARE ALL GOD’S CHILDREN, THEIR OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS, WOULD WE TURN AWAY OUR ON FAMILIES IF THE SITUATION WAS OPPOSITE. MY POINT IS EVERYONE CAN HELP. YOU DON’T KNOW WHAT YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH UNTIL YOU TRY. IT ALL STARTS WITH A DESIRE TO HELP OTHER PEOPLE. I AM SURE THERE ARE OTHER STATE HELPING ALSO, AND IT MAKES ME PROUD TO FROM ARKANSAS, TO BE AN AMERICAN. THEY VICTIMS WILL SURVIVE, AND WE WILL CLEANUP, REBUILD, AND START OVER AGAIN. BUT TO THE VICTIM’S YOU ARE NOT ALONE, WE DO CARE, AND GOD HAS NOT FORSAKEN YOU. NATURAL DISASTERS HAPPEN, LOSS HAPPENS, EVEN DEATH, BUT WE HURT, WE GROW, WE LIVE AND LOVE AGAIN.
IF YOU WANT TO HELP GO TO http://WWW.LITTLE ROCK.COM
THERE IS A LIST OF THINGS OUR CITY IS DOING TO HELP THE KATRINA HURRIVAN EVACUEES. CHALLANGE YOUR OWN COMMUNITY, CITY, STATE, COUNTRY TO SET UP TO DO THE SAME TO HELP THESE PEOPLE. ONE PERSON CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
I am about 50 miles from New Orleans and was spared by her turn to the east. I am in Hammond Louisiana
I would like to tell everyone out there thank you in advance for all of your help.
Hey Get off President Bush!! if you think it is so easy to handle a disaster bigger than the U.S. has ever had then go to it!!! its hard to get help to everybody and it don’t help when the helicopters are being shot at!!!! gangs are killing people and raping women inside the dome. My prayers go out for the innocent that is caught up in all of this. but I dont blame it all on the president. I blame it on the devils causing harm to the innocent. It is hard enough to deal with getting supplies there we dont need gangs doing the devils work!!! Iam going down to help it bothers me to think about what could happen but when i see so many in need i cant set back and do nothing. But I don’t think it is the presidents fault!!!!!!!!!!!FIND AWAY TO HELP INSTEAD OF PUTTING THE BLAME ON SOMEBODY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is for all of the ones wanting to help by housing the victims that is great!!!!! But if you cannot afford to fund this yourself then do something else what I am getting to is DONT ASK THE GOVERMENT FOR MONEY AND CHARITIES. IT MAKES YOU SOUND LIKE A CREEP!!!!!!!!! Helping people should come from the heart not a way to get money that is needed elsewhere
your beautiful.Iam our big fan
No, we can’t afford to put up 2 families indefinitely, but we do have 2 perfectly good vacant apartments that could save some lives. We are not asking charities or the government for anything, except to determine that the people we put up are genuinely in need.
We are not offering charity, but the same leg-up that my family received after a devastating fire 40 years ago. We assume that people want to rebuild their lives, just as my father did; and that, like him, they take pride in providing for their families. We are not interested in making a profit, just in covering the utilities.
We are offering to put displaced children up in our foster home with no desire or expectation of getting paid.
Who are you to pass judgement? We are doing what we can. What are you doing to help? I hope you’re making a difference, and not just a lot of noise!

Greetings Mr. pay rent in October
It’s a shame you have to do a credit check on a disaster victim. These are not people that are waiting on an insurance claim. These people are destitute. They have nothing but what’s on their back. And one month? These people are not just going through hard times they are victims of a natural disaster. These are people that have lost everything and maybe their children or parents. They just can move in forget about everything find just any job real quick because you need you’re October rent. They need help rebuilding their lives. The last thing these people need is someone like you standing their demanding they go out today and get a job. What if the person that contacts you is disabled from this? It could take months to rehabilitate. Are you going to demand a photo and the social security number over the phone? And the charitable organization part why are you on here then? Just pick up the phone and call a social worker I’m sure you know how to get a hold of one. And why a boy and girl? What if it was 2 brothers with no mother or father? Would you tell them no? Come on the government pays you to take in children and a good wage to. Opportunist is what you are waiting on the government to pay you to help.
Someone who is really helping
Poulsbo, WA..
I’m thinking the U.S. Government has some Morphin Mighty Ninja Power Rangers and it appears to me that the citizens of New Orleans and myself have gotten BUSH-WACKED!!!
Dear “Really Helping”:
For your information, we are adopting our foster kids-all 4 of them-a sibling group who would have been separated otherwise- and will not be getting paid for it. It’s not a business. (Yes, we get a stipend right now, but it does not cover all of the expenses of raising 4 very needy children.) We will be supporting them like any other parents, and spending money for a lawyer to make this happen. We love them, and are thrilled.
We have dedicated our lives to service, most of the time for no renumeration at all. We have to take a boy and a girl because that’s what we are able to accomodate because of our bedroom situation and our license. That is what we are allowed to do. To do otherwise would put our license-and our family- in jeopardy. Hopefully, you don’t think that would be a good idea.
As for demanding rent in October. If that was the case, we could simply put an ad in the paper. It is a desirable property in a convenient location ;and if we were focused on making it pay, we would do just that.We were planning to sell it, since we can’t afford to own it. We put this plan on hold in hopes of helping someone. It was never in our plan to be landlords. If they can’t pay, we’ll work with them. What we can’t afford is to pay utilities for someone who is able to do that for themselves.
. Just because we have an extra house does not mean we have money. Our bank account is at under $200. We’re offering the space and saying that we do not have the money to pay utilities on a second property. We are starting our own business, and right now, we can barely pay our own utilities. But we may create desperately needed jobs. As for a credit check, we’ve helped someone we believed to be in need before and ended up with a drug dealer staying in our spare room. The situation culminated in extreme violence against a family member. We regret the neccessity, but we must protect the safety of our loved ones, including our children. (Remember Elizabeth Smart?) To do this, we must make sure we are not aiding and abetting a criminal. We’re not looking for someone with money. We’re looking for someone that will treat our house with respect and not destroy it or turn it into a brothel or drug house.
By the way, we ARE getting in touch with charities and church groups in the Reading, Philly area, so that when the hurricaine victims arrive, they will know we have space available. Also, do you know why our bank account is down to gas money? We gave every cent not spent on neccessities to the Red Cross.
We would love to take a disabled person! My brother has both a spinal cord and brain injury. Guess who was his caretaker until he felt ready to move out on his own? It wasn’t the government or any charity.
This is getting tiresome. You seem to be someone who is so angry and filled with hate that there is no reaching you. Say what you want. I don’t have time for you and your vitriol, other than to pray for you. This is my last letter to you. If you want to keep ranting, feel free.
By the way, I find it interesting that you have not yet said what it is that you are doing to help-other than harrassing me for offering 2 apartments and a home for 2 children. I can’t help it if our means are limited right now, but I do care about people, and am offering what I have. I wish I could do more to help these people. I have a sister and cousin down there! I would never attack you the way you are attacking me.
No, I can’t give as much as others can-simply because I don’t HAVE it! I had a choice to offer limited help or no help at all.You seem to think I’ve made the wrong choice. From my point of view, giving what I can is a better thing to do than not giving at all, selling the house, and pocketing the money.
Let’s not waste any more time and energy fighting, but both do what we can to help. God bless you and bring you health and happiness!
Our hearts go out to the people and animals, who are suffering in the aftermath of Katrina. We are praying for them.
Our hearts go out to the people and animals, who are suffering in the aftermath of Katrina. We are praying for them. Give aid to our own U.S. citizens, not aliens.
I am looking for a site that will list specific family / people in need in the state of Arkansas. I would like to talk with individuals directly and hope to relieve some wants and needs that have not been met elsewhere. I feel I could better serve in knowing the specific situation. If anyone can help please. Thankyou and bless those that have been touched by Katrina.
You people have to be kidding me. I don’t even know how I ended up here, but I was born in New Orleans and was evacuated from school in New Orleans. I can’t even begin to say what a slap in the face it is that people out there would start to use the fact that I don’t have a place to go to school, not to mention, a place TO CALL HOME anymore as a way to shoot down our president. You want preparation? How’s a mandatory evac for you? The people who didn’t make it out either did not think that they were in danger (even though I can’t remember the last time i heard of an entire city being evacuated) or they did not take advantage of the many services that were available to help you. Bottom line is- our city was already under water BEFORE THE HURRICANE. Water is pumped out of NO 365 days a year for all my life. Our city was perhaps waiting for something like this, but when you live underwater, there is very little you can do about it.
Now to tell you liberal asses why you are wrong and why you are now making a mockery of the fact that I don’t have a home.
1. The only services readily available to respond to natural disasters are those such as The Red Cross. The Red Cross receives government funding.
2. George Bush responded immediately BEFORE Katrina hit. It takes time to get supplies into a flooded city. You have to wait for the flood to come because you don’t want to destroy what you bring. Most importantly, the entire area was under major threat making travel very dangerous for large supply trucks.
3. No one is starving. There are so many places available to get fed. Thanks to all the help we have received, there is food to go around. The death you hear about on the news is almost all related to the initial storm, flood waters, and most importantly, the violence that is happening in New Orleans. Police and Army can only do so much. Remember, people get away with crimes all the time.
4. Hurricane contingency plans are drawn up by Louisiana and the city of New Orleans. You want someone to blame? Blame them? Oh wait, you didn’t even know who the mayor of NO was until this happened. Did you? Maybe that’s because you don’t live there , and you know nothing about the way government works.
5. We are a strong and wealthy city. We will be reborn. We are not third world.
As for me, I am in no need of assistance. I have a loving family who I have stayed with. All my friends and family left when they were told and have done just fine. Our house has seen much better days, but everything can be undone. If any good is to be seen, it is in the form of help and community. To all you that are so eager to give out help, God bless.
now we can see the real nature of americans. killing each other, shooting at each other, congratulations! just like bandar acheh, indonesia. the whole world laughs at the so called “super power” :)
I read that the people that lived through the hurricane who are struggling to survive, clinging to their pets, the only comfort they have left are being turned away from various emergency shelters. They and their pets are forced to stay outside in the elements. I read where a little dog by the name of “Snowball” was taken from a little boys arms before they let him board a bus. The most important thing to that little boy was his dog. He lost everything else and he loved his dog and they took it from him. Who are the people that are responsible for decisions like these? I want to know their names so I meet them face to face and tell them what I think of them. The loss of human life and the incredible suffering is heart wrenching enough but taking from the people who lost everything their pets and refusing them shelter because they cared enough to save their animals, is the inexplicable and inexcusable. Animals that would be helpless without their owners. My son lost his brand new home because of the hurricane, his job is gone (the business no longer exists) and yet he and his wife saved themselves and their 5 cats. But I am not surprised, why should the government care about the people with pets and make sure they were allowed shelter? The Government didn’t do a damn thing for the people of Louisiana until the public outcry at Bush’s handling of the disaster grabbed the media attention drew furious, and angry fire at the Whitehouse. All I can say about George Bush ( I can’t call him President and I am ashamed I voted for him) and his oil hungry family is impeach him and run them out of Washington. Then there is Condelisa Rice who was out spending $2,000.00 on shoes and going to the theater while people were dying in the streets of New Orleans. SHAME!!!! Fire the head of FEMA he is a lying ineffectual moron. Fire everyone that stopped the funding to fix the Levees in Louisiana. Give those people with pets shelter where ever there is shelter. Animal rescue you people get of your asses and get to New Orleans. There must be 1000’s of trapped pets in those houses still alive and suffering. Humans can cry for help and the animals cannot. Who knows you might find a human holding that pet that the Government has left behind because they didn’t provide enough troops to search those homes. Shame on you George Bush and your staff, Shame on Homeland Security, Shame on FEMA. Thank GOD for the Red Cross and all American citizens who rallied to do what our Government did not. I know here in California we will be devastated by a large earthquake. Knowing what I know now of how our own Government sat on their fat asses while that monster storm bore down on Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama, what hope do us Californians have when the BIG ONE hits? I will tell you this, the first person that tries to stop my family from bringing our pets into a shelter and turns us away better be prepared for a fight.
My prayers to you New Orleans, God knows your suffering even if Bush does not. Know the people in New Orleans knows what the old Cowboy term “Bushwhacked” means…

I am an evacuated student from UNO in New Orleans relocating to Richmond, VA to continue my education at VCU. I am desperately looking for an apartment in the Richmond, VA area to complete my education. I will be staying with friends until I can find something reasonable. Please help me out and send me an e-mail if you have any information. Thank you
Rather than send money to a non-personal organization (by the way we already have) is there a way to pay the rent for a specific family for the comnig months. I figure many of these people would rather have a place of their own since they just lost everything. There is a group of us that would like to contribute by paying the rent for someone for the coming months ahead. Any ideas or already setup ways to do this? Thanks TBone

I would like to host a family of the katrina flood .I live in california.I was born in biloxi miss. How do I contact the right organization?
I am heartbroken to see those poor people who have lost everything in this tragedy – I have wept tonight for those who are being forced to leave their dead relatives behind when they are eventually rescued. Even worse is those who are being forced to leave behind their LIVE pets to fend for themselves. I will never forget the poor man featured on our BBC news tonight having to open cans of food to leave for his pet cats – how can the authorities be so heartless – this is AMERICA after all – not a third world country – there should be endless resources to help but as far as we see it is an absolute shambles. Never before have we seen dead bodies floating down waterlogged streets DAYS after the disaster happened – I pray to God to help and comfort all those involved and plead with anyone who can help those poor homeless cats, dogs and other animals to do something to rescue them. If anyone knows of a rescue group willing to help please let me know as I would want to send a donation. I feel so helpless and sad for all concerned. Love and prayers – Lyn
my hope and prayers goes out to victims of katrina
I would just like to say how sorry and upset Iam to see so many people suffering and let down by a so called ”Super power”. I think its time that all Americans stood up and Oust Mr Bush from control of your country. He has now let Americans down twice. Firstly with America’s security before 9/11 and now he has let a whole nation down. I live england in the UK, I am searching the Internet as i really want to come over to New Orleans and help with the search and rescue attempts, delivering Aid etc. However I have been searching for many hours and there seems to be no groups or charitys who are bringing people from the UK across to help. Why??? I feel strongly that this is wrong and that people should be flooded in to New Orleans, to help get supplies to everyone, as well as helping to persuade those who dont want to leave that now is the time. I hardly feel that armed soldiers give a good impression to people that have already been let down by the soldiers employers – The government!! I just wish i had been in power as the disaster struck, beccause i know that a lot more Americans would of been saved. well my hopes and prayers go to everyone involved and if anyone know of anyway that i may be able to assist with the saving of lifes, please please contact me. Matthew woods – UK
I am out of work right now and would like to go down and volunteer my services to help; then I would like to stay down on the coast and work a job to help rebuild a wonderful town and help me with a job. Where should I go (website) to find out about these type of issues.
Thank You

I saw a kitty on CNN this morning that was rescued from the bumper of a car in the aftermath of the hurricane. I want to adopt this kitty!!! If anyone knows anybody helping with the animal rescue efforts, please e-mail me. I have attempted to contact Noah’s wish and CNN, but I am sure that my e-mail will get lost in the influx they are recieving. I am desperate to have this kitten!!! If anyone can help me I will so appreciate your efforts. I am an ER nurse in Dallas and have been taking care of many of the victims and I realize that it is mostly the animals now that are being left behind. I want this kitty!!!!
For a very long time, this country carried a dark pass. This pass is known by many generations. We all pretend to be altogether but God always show us that we are not. Sept 11 hit and for the first time, americans wanted to be only known as americans. I must tell you that I felt the greatest love in the air,it was so over welming. Helping one another was just the tip of the ice burg. true love was in the air for all americans,God what a great day for america-it took a Sept 11 to bring all americans TOGETHER!! NOW THE QUESTION TODAY IS WILL GOD HAVE TO KEEP SHOWING US THAT WE ARE STILL PRETENDING TO LOVE ONE ANOTHER OR HAS katrina BROUGHT THIS COUNTRY TOGETHER FOR GOOD? I’m sooo fed up with the lies of our bad leaders Republicans and Democrats alike?
Central Florida acreage available to families with animals needing a place to recuperate from hurricaine.
This location is a perfect place to help some of the folks recover and FEEL SAFE, while awaiting their new homes back in Miss and La.
Pets are definitely welcome, and horses and cows that need a home can come here, as well.
If anyone knows of an agency that is looking to provide this kind of location please email me.
Thank you,
Suzy
I’m a 30 year old women, with no children of my own. My husband and I will be more than happy to open our home to a baby that has lost their family due to Katrina. If anyone knows how we can start this process, please E-mail us the information.
Thanks for those links helping Katrina victims, I will help spread them around too :)
This message is for Thijs who posted that we “Americans” should not blame everything on Bush. You can talk about the “facts” that Bush sent boats, etc., in which I highly question your sources. But if your disbaled, sickly, and poverty-sticken mother was left to drown in a nursing home because the government that you pay taxes to out of you mimimum wage check, while the leader is sitting pretty in Crawford, Texas barbequing steaks, I doubt very seriously that you’d be thanking anyone. If this isn’t a wake up call about Bush’s serious disregard for children and elderly living in poverty, then perhaps then you are living in la-la-land. Call it America if you want, but this isn’t the America that my father lost his life for in Normandy many centuries ago. From what I saw on the news coverage, it had all the elements of a third world country. I think those people who were held captive at the Convention Center in New Orleans, being locked in like criminals, with criminals, would have been very grateful for foreign aid. The govenment of the United States of America didn’t appear to be coming to their aid for the first four days after the Huricane hit. Have you ever lived in poverty? I have because my father was killed in a war fighting to protect American citizens. No one protected the ones who needed it most.
I say shame on any organization that turns away pets. They are part of our families. And some people, they are all they have. Does any one know of a organization like the Red Cross etc. that also supports/cares about the pets. I would like to donate to that organization. I won’t donate to the ones who will not.
My response to Javier (Spanish writer)
You are inconsiderate how do you justify your issues? Obviously you have a lack of education you state from what you read on line and see on the internet. The media is very liberal.
Javier te recomiendo la educacion! What have you done to support the cause? If you do not have the resources you can still initiate some goodwill for the people by being a leader not a follower.
Everyone loves America, we are the land of opportunity. Que Dios lo bendiga!

If everybody were caloused at hurricane katrina..We should be reminded, nobodys expert if the catastrophy happened. Though USA is known as super power and technologically genius, but the New Orleans drown is a sign that we need God.
God sent such… as a sign, that God is supernatural, no man could stand at the moment, He used the nature to preach and humbled at the time of despair…….
If Bush wannabe president even told the truth just for once, i for one would like him even better. What everyone needs to realize is that all Bush cares about the his ass looks on Teleivision.
I am a Kindergarten Teacher with a loving husband and 3 children. We are truly lucky. We have donated monies to The RED CROSS, but want to do more. We don’t have an extra apartment, but have thought about fostering or adopting an older child or children that were in the foster care system down in the disaster area. We’ve always wanted a larger family, but I’m just not able to physically go through labor again. Does anyone have any ideas on how to reach someone to open our home to a child? We are thinking that those offices are closed or devestated, but where are the children? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!
First things first, god bless everyone.
I bealive that they should leave the city under water and move it 20 miles up river, because what is going to happen when another hurricane catagorie 5 hit’s? Everything is going to be back under water. So instead of creating a problem in the future, let’s create a solution now.
everyone who reads this should really pray for the victims of katrina because they lost a lot of loved ones and now they dont have anything. for the victims, you are in my prayers always.

I want to say it makes me sick that babies amd children and many other american citizens died when thay didn’t have to. Lets blame ourselves and the condition we have put the world in on this disaster. GOD is talking………LISTEN!!!

I LIVED IN NEW ORLEANS ALL MY LIFE AND HAD NO DESIRE TO LEAVE UNTIL WE WERE FORCE TO LEAVE, BY THE WRATH OF GOD. THUR IT ALL WHAT CAN WE SAY OR DO NOTHING WE CAN PUT THE BLAME WHERE WE WON’T IT TO BE AND IT WON’T CHANGE A THING. BUT THUR IT ALL THE PRESIDENT IS GOING TO PAY, BECAUSE THIS THING THAT HAPPEN TO US, WAS BIGGER THEN THE MAYOR, BIGGER THAN THEN THE GOVENOR AND FOR ALL THOSE ORLEANIANS THAT SAY THE ARE NOT COMING BACK, PLEASE DO! DON’T BE SOLD LIKE A COMMON SLAVE. THIS IS A NEW BEGINNING!!!!!! GOD BLESS NEW ORLEANS!!!!!!!
TO ALL:
Aiding in Katrina Relief is not a partisan topic. It doesn’t matter if you’re liberal or conservative, Democrat or Republican, Anti-Bush or Pro-Bush. It doesn’t matter if you believe in a god or not. Or, what god you believe in. What matters is that we’re all human beings, and we have a common thread. A disaster like this should unify, not divide. Work together on re-building New Orleans, not attack each other due to technicalities. We all know what New Orleans needs: basic necessities, encouragement and an influx kind-hearted volunteers. It doesn’t matter so much the route you take to get to the goal. Let this be a source for doing something about the situation, not political/religious talk.
Im a resident of New Zealand a mother of three and is heartbroken to see such sadness take place for the people of New Orleans. The people of this small country send prayers and heartfelt concerns for those who have been tragically devastated through the event of hurricane Katrina.
Hi all,I was turn down from Fema today for housing assitance, they call it rental assitance. But what is the difference,it is a roof over your head isn’t it, no matter what it is called.I am disable and so is my husband,so we have no income. But becasue I didn’t wait for the so called Fema homes(travel trailer or moblie home which was taking forever) I took the $2000 to purchase my own moblie home(my sons, husband and I were living on the streets. So I did what was the right thing for us at the time.Rent was higher then buying this moblie home.People who own property were over charging. This was not fair to us that they could do this, but noone stop it. I was approved for 18 months of help for housing but now I not getting the help (because I purchase this moblie home)but if I rented a place I would be getting this help.I don’t think this makes any sense. What is the difference?I feel like this is sad that my husband tax money went to other countries, when in our own country we can’t get help when we need it now.Alaska got some of the money that was suppose to be for hurricane victium, that went to a bridge to nowhere, and aslo Mexico got some of this money to.I don’t think we are living in a free America this is just like living in a forgein country,We have people like the presdient taking our tax money to help other country, and when the people of the United States need it,it is not avaible to us.I might as well go live in a forgein country they get more help then what we did after Katrina hit.Now I don’t where I will be living next week, and where is everyone like the goverment now. They don’t care that I am still having it hard.Oh but if I or my husband was working he would execpt us to pay the taxes.I was depending on Fema to help me out for the 18 months that I was approve for,I not saying that it would of took me that long to get back on my feet either.I have apply for social security disablitily, but that aslo take time(it has been 5 months now)I don’t even want to mention the mortage company, they want there money aslo and will not even start to understand. Then as the thought of informing my landlord I can’t pay him the lot note makes me even sicker. All I know is that my husband paid his tax money for 50 years now,but now that I need the help from other tax payer(so that is the excuse Fema is using that is where the money come from)I can’t get any help, even if it is just a short time more.I think I deverse this help since my husband and I were tax payer for a lot of years. To me this is kinda of sad.But they can send our tax money to other places and when u need help u can’t get the help.I am praying that I can get threw this but the way it looks I have no strenght left after going threw the same thing within a few months. and not knowing where I will be tomorrow.May God Bless all that are having the same problem as me, even if u were not in a major disater, but having the same diffucult situation as I am.Thanks for letting me speak my peace.

I returned to New Orleans in July. I will always be grateful to the people of College Station, Tx. They took us in and showed much love.Special thanks to the Steens, Mr. Beechy, the Holmyers, and all others. We will always remember you with prayers and affection. You made a difficult time more bearable. Thanks Again!
I’m a student at Cornell University. As part of an Urban planning project we are planning research and subsequent trips to the 9th ward district.
I’m dismayed to find out that there has been very slow progress (i went down on a trip with some other college students in spring of 06) and want to know what is the most urgent and pressing needs.
Any one specifically from that area who wants to contact me with info please feel free. I would appreciate it.
