It seems that the ongoing retro throwback trend in music is continuing unabated.
We’ve noted quite a few of these retro modern performers: Bettye LaVette, Amy Winehouse, James Hunter, Corinne Bailey Rae and Bitter:Sweet.
The latest fun music is Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings: 100 Days, 100 Nights. (Amazon is also offering a free MP3 of the title track of the album, no strings attached).
Called the “Queen of Funk,” any fan of 1960s and 70s R&B, Soul, or Motown will find plenty to love about this disc: Sharon Jone’s is in turns, upbeat, smoky, slinky and soulful.
This is Sharon Jones and the Dap Kings’ 3rd album. Hardcore fans may recognize the Dap-Kings as the backing band for Amy Winehouse – both on the recording and on tour.

Done
Detroit Cobras: better revival band than those just mentioned, imho. And speaking of Zep the other day, how about The Black Keys! Very fun stuff.
Crush Da Bears,
Ebay is your friend :-)
They appear to have several hundred on sale for within 10% of retail.

Weird. Could have sworn I was replying to an upthread post.
My apologies if I was participating in an unintended threadjack, Barry…
The Dap-Kings track smokes, btw – thanks for the link.
The Big Picture | Friday Night Jazz Soul: Sharon Jones
Link: The Big Picture | Friday Night Jazz Soul: Sharon Jones. hi The Big Picture | Friday Night Jazz Soul: Sharon Jones.
Sharon Jones’ concert in Toronto earlier this week was completely sold out! I’m glad she is finally rubbing off some of Amy Winehouse’s fame.
She does all of the things, she has all the accoutrements, all the everything (and the song itself is _incredible_), but she leaves me a bit cold in places. Kind of like microwave soul impersonating cookin’ with gas.
Amazon morons make me clicky-clicky all the way to choose a credit card to charge $0.00 for the download. Sheeesh.
Yeah, thats kinda weird — but thats whatcha get fer free . . .
I was wondering when you were going to get around to spotlighting this album. She played the Apollo last month- couldn’t get tickets to that show either
