The reviews of the iPad are out, and they are pretty outrageous. If you are afraid of arousing any consumer lust, steer clear of them.
• WSJ Walt Mossberg: Calls it a ‘Game Changer’ that pretty close to a “Laptop Killer.”
• NYT’s David Pogue: Techies will hate it, everyone else will love it. “a new category of gadget; designed and built by a bunch of perfectionists. If you like the concept, you’ll love the machine.” (Pogue’s FAQ is here)
• Edward C. Baig, USA TODAY: “The first iPad is a winner. It stacks up as a formidable electronic-reader rival for Amazon’s Kindle. It gives portable game machines from Nintendo and Sony a run for their money.
• Time, Stephen Fry: “one doesn’t relate to it as a “tool”; the experience is closer to one’s relationship with a person or an animal.”
Even Mrs. BP — who hates technology, can’t stand cellphones, and uses email only grudgingly — wants one.
That’s a frightening indicator of enormous sales potential.
