2012 Automobile of the Year: Audi A7

Automobile magazine just named the Audi A7 the 2012 of the Year.

When the Honda Crosstour comes off lease, this is the car that is near the top of my list to replace it. Requirements: 4 doors, 5 seats, AWD. The Audi has two drawbacks: No manual shifter (yeah, I’m one of those guys) and Mrs. Big Picture is not a fan of their styling.

I’m not a truck guy. I have looked at the Acura MDX, Cadillac SRX, the Range Rover Evoque, Infiniti FX45, and the BMW X6. None drive like a car, they all feel ungainly and dangerous to me (perhaps I need to slow down thru the twisties).

In the category of swoopy looking 4 wheel drive cars (instead of ungainly trucks) there are limited options: The Crosstour, Audi A7, BMW 5 Series GT, (essentially a 7 series 5 door wagon), Acura ZDX, and the Mercedes Benz CLS.

Regardless, I appreciate the dramatic styling of the A7. Too bad I can’t get the missus to like it.
