Yes, the marketing behind Vista is atrocious. Smells like Balmer’s idea. If you haven’t seen the clip on Youtube of Balmer’s commercial for Windows 3.1, you have to see it. What…an…a$$hat.
Apple OS X 10.4.10 = Microsoft Vista 2.1 circa Q2 2012. [Provided workarounds to copyright and patent infringment can be completed by then.]
Vista: Software written by lawyers, for lawyers because of lawyers, vetted by lawyers.
It’s Official: Apple is the New Microsoft
Don’t look now, but the role of the industry’s biggest bully is increasingly played by Apple, not Microsoft.

If Microsoft didn’t release an operating system that needed a top of the line system Dell and HP stocks would have taken a beating.
Bloatware is an understatement. I think Vista is worthy of being called Bureaucracy Ware, or crap for short.
The other interesting fact is that most of the computers that still come with XP are sold out/ not in stock on the popular online retailers. The demand for XP exists but it will not be supplied.
It’s funny because its true.
@Bob A
There are so many things wrong with that article its not even funny. My favorite takedown of that article is here: http://blogs.cnet.com/8301-13509_1-9774121-20.html?part=rss&tag=feed&subj=TheMacalope:AnAppleblog
I went to a local computer store to purchase a stand alone copy of vista because I wanted to review its capabilities. I couldn’t because they only offered the upgrade versions. So not only is the marketing and packaging awefule but they make it difficult to buy the stupid thing.
Guess what? I agree with all of the above, yet when buying a new PC, get 2 gigs or RAM, and, yes….Vista is nice. Looks good, secure, and great search capabilities.
Or should I pony up an extra 500 bucks that I don’t have? Yes, I think its worth the extra 100 bucks in better hardware over XP.
Get real people. Stop expecting everything to be perfect.

I’d go check how my OS/X copy compares to my Vista, but my Mac hardware is dead for the third or fourth time and I haven’t had the chance to take it apart and fix it.
One time the disk died, and I needed a new one but wanted the latest OS/X. But, the latest OS/X was ONLY available on DVD, not CD, so I had to also upgrade the CD drive to a Superdrive…this inside a case that would make a watchmaker smile with familiarity.
When you have a monopoly on your hardware, I guess your customers just have to grin and bear it :)
BTW, wondered if Barry ever installed that extra cooling fan in the back of his desktop?
I was reading today that adoption of Vista by UK business is about 2%.
I have been busy profitably upgrading many business clients who need new hardware (for various reasons) from the installed Vista to the aftermarket purchased Win XP plus my time. The verdict is that a new hardware box plus XP plus my installation is a better deal than the “free” Vista that comes with the box.
Didn’t you already post this not long ago?
I’m a Macintosh. He’s a PC…
We both suck
Funny, We lived in Vista, CA for 14 years.
I am a Happy user of Ubuntu (Linux) and a Vista non-user. Windows stopped being worth paying for after Windows 2000 for me.
One other thing: If you Buy those computers with Vista (or XP) installed – you don’t get a disk or book. If you have a disk crash, good luck trying to re-install. If any of you can successfully re-install Vista on a blank disk, let me know. For Ubuntu Linux – ask and you get a CD shipped to you for FREE. It takes, like, 10 minutes to install on a blank disk.
The way Apple pushes it’s propaganda is plain disgusting. Make me wanna smack the stupied-bitten-apple-overlords right on the head.

Thought you might find this interesting –
“While Microsoft is still pushing Vista hard, the company is quietly allowing PC makers to offer a “downgrade” option to buyers that get machines with the new operating system but want to switch to Windows XP.”

MAC OS X is overpriced, overrated, overhyped OS for teenagers, hippies and wannabe cool imbeciles. It is not suitable for a serious business.
Barry, don’t you think there should be different versions of Vista when 95% of the world uses Windows operating system? Do you really think that everyone should get a single version – retail folks, system builders, and businesses should all get a single version?
I build computers and have tested ten different OS systems, including OS X, and nothing works as Vista in terms of dependability, reliability and ease of use. Period.
To the cheap dude up there, comparing Vista Ultimate to Ubuntu Linux (aka Yugo OS) is like comparing BMW to Yugo – driving cheap Yugo and thinking that there are no better cars out there simply because other cars cost more than his Yugo.
The cartoon is childish and opinionated eighth grader humor.
It comes from the same website that sells “Macs Rock!” and “Tiger is Genius!” t-shirts.
I rest my case.

Well, I can’t speak for Barry, but I can see two versions for an Operating system: Home and Business. And the only difference would be the home would have much more bells and whistles with games and assorted stuff.
I’m an IT Professional, I’m morally offended that Microsoft puts the games in it’s basic install for it’s “Business” software.

That’s funny. The entire court system of the State of Maine runs on Macs exclusively. But I guess down deep the Maine Supreme Court justices and Superior and District Court judges are hippies, teenagers and wannabe cool imbeciles.
My favorite “Joy of Tech” comic was from 5-6 years ago– the Klingon Thanksgiving.
“MAC OS X is overpriced, overrated, overhyped OS for teenagers, hippies and wannabe cool imbeciles. It is not suitable for a serious business.” It’s UNIX, man. Some Redmond has been unable to copy; indeed they spent 5 years adding eye-candy to XP and calling it Vista.

I always have to laugh at how Americans find more than 1 option for an operating system taxing to their brain. How the hell do you people shop for detergent?
