Apple vs. Exxon
There’s a TED talk by Regina Dugan of DARPA that I consider a must watch.
She goes through describing several incredible US Government technology projects including a mechanical hummingbird she relesases into the crowd to hover over their heads, it’s a real ooh, aah moment. The corresponding presentation slides have relaxing music and picturse of happy white kids swinging around in a park, and she mentions (correctly) DARPA invented your Internet.
The crowd gives her a standing O.
Then the host comes on stage and skewers her like a 5th grade disection frog by poining out what’s being cheered for. A mach 20 “aircraft” with dumbfounding “from New York to Paris” capabilities… however incapable of carrying passenders or making a return trip. A tiny bird that looks just like real… with no apparent purpose but landing camera eyes and microphone ears on a windowsill.
Understand that the “dogs” and “cheetahs” in films like above are funded with research grants for “defense” purposes. Yes, drone research has made to applications like amazon delivery vehicles, but not before several years of practice delivering bombs to specifically selected individuals.
The headline is “look at this”, the fallback is “for clearing minefields”, only a fool would not consider “covert explosive delivery vehicle”. These are mechanical suicide bombers.
This sounds like (is) a tinfoil hat message, but as the government you approve of is replaced by the government you don’t, consider that it might not always assasinate the humans you’d prefer it to.
I don’t get to vote on who this creature incinerates.

I’ve considered it. I like freedom of thought – and that specifically includes skewering religious bigots – and my enemies don’t. In fact they suborn the murder of free thinkers who write novels and pamphlets with the offer of cash. I occasionally shop in a Jewish supermarket with my son. My enemies consider me fair game for doing so. I like Jews. My enemies have specifically targeted them in an orgy of assault and murder so I have to assume their ‘tolerance’ is greatly exaggerated. Since my enemies intend to incinerate me, I hope to fund as much of their incineration as economically as possible for the foreseeable future.
I hope the robot dogs catch on. I’m assuming they don’t leave “calling cards” on the neighbors’ lawns and driveways.
Is that a Decepticon or an Autobot, or heaven forfend, a GoBot?
